While were glad that 2012 MBA Applicant has material, I thought you (and maybe even 2012 MBA Applicant) may want tips on how to answer that and similar questions. Regards, Jennifer Bloom You spend innumerable hours preparing essays that highlight your strengths and achievements, why on earth would you want to then take up space in your application with examples of situations in which you didnt measure up to your managers expectations and were the object of their criticism Unfortunately, this is exactly what many MBA programs ask applicants to do both in their essay questions and their letter of recommendation forms. In todays post, Ill explain why the schools ask this question, and Ill detail methods for answering these types of questions to the benefit of your application. In the past few years we have seen a significant increase in the number of programs that are asking for examples of situations in which the applicant doesnt measure up to expectations. For example: Tuck 3: Discuss the most difficult constructive criticism or feedback you have received. How did you address it? What have you learned from it? Wharton 4b: Tell us about something significant that you have done to improve yourself, in either your professional and/or personal endeavors. Chicago 2: Describe a time when you were surprised by feedback that you received. What was the feedback and why were you surprised? Chicago LOR: Please provide a written letter of recommendation. In other words, it does absolutely no good to show someone at Tuck, Wharton, Chicago, or Stanford, for example the best way to do business, manage people, and guide companies if he is unwilling and/or unable to integrate that method into his own working style. So how do the admissions committees determine who has the potential to actually learn from their programs and become a better manager? They seek applicants who have proven in the past that they have the ability to learn about their shortcomings and then integrate new and better methods into their decision making. Prove to the top MBA programs that you possess the maturity to accept and grow from criticism, and you will be one step closer to the thick acceptance envelope. The best way to demonstrate that an applicant possesses an attribute in essays, interviews, and letters of recommendation is to share specific examples of times in which you demonstrated those attributes in the past. First, the answer should explain what the circumstances were: what actions had you taken and what impact, or lack of impact, had they made? Second, what was the feedback you received? What had this person felt was missing from your approach or what did s/he say you did wrong? Third, discuss how you took this criticism. Frankly, if someone immediately accepts criticism without analyzing it, I suspect the person of being a doormat*; instead, I want to hear why the advice rang true for you. Finally, share what you changed about your own behavior or actions following that criticism and the impact that you had as a result. Obviously, for the letters of recommendation you cannot write the answer to the criticism question for your recommender. However, your recommenders might find this post helpful in writing their responses. What Worship Is And What It Is Not. What is the true meaning of worshipping God? Is it intense emotional outpouring of an individual? Is it smoke, lights, and loud music reminiscent of some sort of sanctified bar room? Does it require music or sound at all? What exactly is required of an individual who wishes to glorify his Creator and Redeemer? These are the questions that will be discussed in this paper. What is worship? It can be defined as many things from solitude and prayer with God; It may involve music to some, in an effort to draw one closer into the presence of the Almighty. The best definition of worship is this: it is an end unto itself; it is not a means unto something else. When we try to worship for the sake of certain benefits that may be received, the act ceases to be worship; for then it attempts to use God as a means to something else. (Segler 5) It may be nigh unto impossible to pinpoint a single form of worship that is applicable to everyone, but a single concept must be present for all believers. They must adjust to being away from home for the first time, maintain a high level of academic achievement, and adjust to a new social environment. College students, regardless of year in school, often deal with pressures related to finding a job or a potential life partner. These stressors do not cause anxiety or tension by themselves. Instead, stress results from the interaction between stressors and the individuals perception and reaction to those stressors (Romano, 1992). The responses obtained will be supported by statistical techniques like measures of dispersion, central tendency and regression analysis. The secondary data will also be evaluated with the excel tool by applying relevant formulas. Therefore, the combination of both primary and secondary data will help the researcher to develop appropriate inferences based on the research study. Conclusions, Interpretations and Recommendations: The initial hypothesis will be accepted or rejected based on the computation of the data received in terms of both primary and secondary data. If the customers feel satisfied with the quality of services of National Australia Bank, it would reflect in its financial statements and vice-versa. In the first case, the alternative hypothesis will be satisfied and in the latter case, the null hypothesis will be accepted. Pearl Harbor Pearl Harbor: We didnt know, yet it was our fault In 1941, one of the largest American military defeats occurred. An entire naval fleet was destroyed, hundreds were killed, all before nine A.M. on a Sunday morning. The US did not have any knowledge of this attack, mostly because of their own ignorance, partially because of the military strategies of their Japanese opponents. The Japanese attack on the US naval base of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, was a classic case of It will not happen to me! Although the US suspected the Japanese actions, they were not ready because they believed an attack would never happen on American grounds. Through an examination of military history, tactics and eye witness descriptions, it will be proven that the US had no knowledge of the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, but had sufficient warnings from the Japanese and others that an attack was imminent. In the years before 1941, the war saw little American military action. After the collapse of France, American President Franklin Delano Roosevelt promised his county that no American troops would be sent to Europe to aid in the battle against Hitler and his powerful army. These promises caused Roosevelt to be criticized by his closest advisors for his doubt about declaring war . The Presidents defense to these accusations was he did not want to be looked down upon by the public. As well, he believed American intervention would cause a mortal blow to the Allies cause. In reality, the advisors, as well as Roosevelt, knew that Britain could not win the war without American armed intervention. Two oceans to the East, Japan was deep into a war of its own. Japanese forces were concentrated on the Chinese front to conquer and obtain. As a result of its unpopular declaration of war on China, Japans fuel supply from the US was eliminated. Consequently, the Japanese turned to Indonesia to continue the supply of fuel for its war efforts. Fuel talks broke down as the Dutch, who were in control of the Indonesian fuel supply and, under heavy influence from the US, would not supply Japan with fuel. Desperately needing fuel to continue the war, Japan first thought of attacking Indonesia, but feared US intervention. After some thought, Japanese leaders decided that an attack directly on the US would be more appropriate to bring the US to the fuel supplies negotiating table . The first acknowledgment that Japan was a war threat came on November 27, 1941 when Washington ordered a War Warning. The US feared a Japanese attack, not on America, but on the Philippines. American military leaders took little or no precautions upon the issue of warning. Admiral Husband E. Kimmel and Lt. General Walter C. Short of Pearl Harbor had done nothing to make the fleet or its defenses ready for Japanese attack . The commanding officers believed the warning to be no more than a possible threat of sabotage from the Japanese living on the island of Oahu. As a result, the officers ordered that all aircraft in the base be lined up at wing tip to be easily guarded. Defenses were on limited alert, with no long distance reconnaissance and no improvements on the limited anti-aircraft defenses. On board ships, only half of the anti-aircraft positions were stood at with the ammunition locked away . In every reference Ive seen and every Pearl Harbor survivor Ive ever talked to, each r eferred to the attack as a surprise, said PH1 Goodwin of Pearl Harbor in an Electronic-mail letter dated December 15, 1997. Mr. Goodwins comment is embarrassing at best, subsequently the American defense stance has been referred to as a shameful blunder . The lack of preparation for an attack demonstrated by the officers at Pearl Harbor portrayed the general attitude of ignorance in the American government. The United States of America is the strongest, most powerful country in the world. A country such as Japan, which does not even have the resources to survive a lengthy war, could not possibly attack them . Challenges in classifying normal and abnormal behavior When defining and classifying normal and abnormal behavior in psychology, culture is one of the challenges that a therapist faces when assessing a client (Nairne, 2008). This is because a certain disorder is classified differently by people from different cultures. There are cultures that allow a broad diversity of behaviors than others and some behaviors. In addition, in such cultures some behaviors are not classified as abnormal but unique or just extraordinary. The presence of diverse cultures with different perspective on daily life makes it difficult to have fix standards which can be used to define and classify normal and abnormal behaviors. Every society has its cultural standards that define a normal and an abnormal behavior. In some culture an individual is considered to have a psychological disorder only when he violates the social norm of the society (Haviland, Walrath & Prins, 2007). This makes it difficult for some individuals to access attention from a therapist for ex ample those who suffer from anxiety disorders that are characterized by social withdrawal. Such individuals do not violate or affect directly the norms of a society and thus such disorders may be disregarded. Cultural deviance makes it difficult to identify and classify normal and abnormal because behaviors are classified not on the effects they have on the individual but on the effect the behavior has in the society (Haviland, Walrath & Prins, 2007). A behavior that violates the welfare of the society is the one regarded as abnormal while that which does not is normal. Most of the psychological disorders affect the individual and not the society especially when the disorder is at early stages. When the disorder is at its severity that is when the individualà ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚ ¢s behavior may be noticeable by the society. These facts have made it impossible to use cultural deviance alone to classify what is normal or abnormal behavior (Nairne, 2008). The Diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorder is a manual with standardized classification and definition of behaviors. However, culture may be used to access a patient by considering how the individual relates with the society. Some culture aspects considered when assessing the client include involvement in social work and productivity. If reported that there is reduced social interaction for quite some time, this is a feature important in diagnosing mental disorders. Are some anxiety disorders more difficult to treat than others? What are some treatment options? Depending on the level of severity, there are anxiety disorders that are easier to treat than others (Evans, 2007). There are those which are approached while at their early stages and while in mild state, these are easier to treat and the method of treatment may involve use of one treatment option such as relaxation technique and may take short time, like two months, for the patient o recover. Those which are treated when at seve re state such as the generalized anxiety disorder which is a chronic anxiety disorder may require use of complex treatment methods and one method is not sufficient. There require a combination of therapy, medication and complementary treatment methods and the patients take a long time, like years, to recover .
